Woodley ' s <br /> purpose was to find out how the community can reintegrate those persons who will be <br /> leaving GPWH and reintegrate them into society without adverse consequences to either 4 <br /> those individuals or others . He welcomed any discussion, proposals , or suggestions to assist <br /> him in dealing with this problem . <br /> Chairman Adams believed there would be a major impact on our community with the <br /> closing of GPWH and the fact that patients are there because they cannot be cared for within <br /> the community in their home situation or within our own medical limitations . She felt it <br /> would impact law enforcement, emergency services , and families in instances where the <br /> medication becomes imbalanced and violent eruptions result . She was concerned if we don ' t <br /> have an acceptable place for treatment while the medications are balanced . <br /> Dr. Woodley advised of other hospitals within the state , so our patients will still have <br /> somewhere they can be hospitalized, if necessary . The FACT teams he spoke of earlier will <br /> aggressively assist the patients to prevent hospital admission . A contract has been given to <br /> New Horizons in Ft . Pierce and they are supposed to develop a FACT team which will seek <br /> out the persons who need assistance and work with them on a 24 hour basis to make sure <br /> they do not require admission to a hospital . They are also contemplating having more CSU <br /> (Crisis Stabilization Unit) beds so that persons who are in crisis can be treated without the <br /> need for hospitalization . <br /> Commissioner Tippin recounted that he had at one time served on the District ' s <br /> Mental Health Committee and recalled having toured GPWH , a beautiful campus on an old <br /> military base . He was amazed that mentally ill patients of all degrees and ages appeared very <br /> happy .
