PROCLAMATION <br /> DESIGNATING NOVEMBER 15 , 2001 , AS <br /> AMERICA RECYCLES DAY <br /> WHEREAS , each year Americans generate more than 217 million tons of municipal solid waste , <br /> which is more than 4 . 6 pounds per person per day . While the nation has reached an overall recycling <br /> rate of nearly 28 percent , much more can be done , especially in closing the Ieop and purchasing <br /> products made with recycled content , and <br /> WHEREAS , to focus the nation ' s attention on the importance of recycling and closing the loop , <br /> businesses , industries , government agencies , nonprofit organizations and individuals have joined <br /> together to celebrate America Recycles Day and are encouraging their employers , staff, customers , <br /> membership and all citizens to pledge to buy more recycled -content products , starting on November <br /> 15th ; and <br /> WHEREAS , participating in America Recycles Day is one way citizens can help raise <br /> awareness about the need to reduce waste by reusing , recycling and buying recycled products ; and <br /> WHEREAS , Indian River County , Keep Indian River Beautiful and its supporters are celebrating <br /> America Recycles Day with a Recycled Sculpture Art Contest open to all public , private and home <br /> schooled Elementary , Middle and High School students in Indian River County , and <br /> WHEREAS , Keep Indian River Beautiful is coordinating America Recycles Day in Indian River <br /> County and the theme is "America Recycles Day — A Great Time to Renew Our Commitment to <br /> Recycling" , and <br /> WHEREAS , the state and community leaders need to spread the word about the excellent <br /> recycling programs they have established , the growth of markets for recyclable materials and the <br /> importance of buying recycled content products . <br /> NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS , <br /> INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that Thursday , November 15 , 2001 , is hereby proclaimed as <br /> AMERICA RECYCLES DAY <br /> Adopted this 6 `" day of November, 2001 . <br /> BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br /> Caroline D .
