The first, for Excellence in Safety & Health, recognized the Parks Division for their <br />outstanding experience in workers' compensation. The Council considered nominees with <br />the lowest recordable and frequency rates for on-the-job injuries, the number of lost <br />workdays and the length of time without a lost -time injury. In the past year, Parks' <br />employees worked 62,400 man hours with no lost time work days due to on-the-job <br />injuries. In fact, the date of their last lost -time injury was October 14, 1997. <br />The second, for Excellence in Fleet Safety, recognized all drivers of County -owned <br />vehicles who achieved the lowest frequency rate for preventable motor vehicle fleet <br />collisions. The Council defined a preventable collision as one in which the driver was cited <br />by law enforcement or was disciplined by the company's internal procedures. In the past <br />year, County employees drove 36,211,106 miles in 588 County -owned vehicles with 22 <br />collisions; County drivers were cited in 6 of these collisions. <br />We ask that the <br />Board <br />of County <br />Commissioners join with the Sunshine Safety Council to <br />recognize these <br />outstanding <br />employees. <br />On behalf of the Parks Department, Parks Division Superintendent Jim Romanek <br />accepted a plaque from the Sunshine Safety Council for Excellence in Safety & Health. <br />Risk Manager Beth Jordan accept a similar plaque on behalf of all the drivers of County - <br />owned vehicles for Excellence in Fleet Safety. <br />The Commissioners and audience indicated their congratulations with kudos and <br />applause. <br />5.B. REPORT ON UNITED WAY PROGRAM PROGRESS FOR <br />COUNTY EMPLOYEES BY JIM ROMANEK <br />Parks Division Superintendent Jim Romanek reported that County employees have <br />attained 83% of the goal which was $17,800 and there are still two field presentations to be <br />made and some mass mailings were included with the last payroll. He knew they would <br />reach the Torchbearer goal for this year. He thanked the Commissioners for allowing him <br />to head up the campaign and thank the employees who are really the backbone of this <br />campaign. <br />Chairman Ginn thanked Mr. Romanek for his work beyond the call of duty. <br />December 11, 2001 <br />91 <br />L{1 1 E.
