The decision being appealed was made by the Planning and Zoning Commission
on a 5-2 vote at its November 9, 2000 meeting (see attachment #2).
The administrative permit application that is the subject of the appeal was submitt
ed by Kimley-
Horn &Associates, Inc. on behalf of Nextel Communications. That application reflects the
applicant's proposal to develop a 149' foot tall monopole tower designed for multiple personal
communications services users (see attachment #3, staff's report on the project to the Planning and
Zoning Commission). The site of the proposed tower is located at the west end of the 20 acre
Immanuel Baptist Church site at 455 58" Avenue SW. The site is located outside the Urban Service
Area and is zoned A-1 (Agricultural up to 1 unit/5 acres). Based on the site's A4 zoning, a
commercial monopole tower between 75' and 150' in height is allowed as an administrative permit
use on the subject site.
December 12, 2000
BK 1 16 PG 419
