Us DECLARE EQUIPMENT SURPL US AND AUTHORIZE APPROPRIATE
DISPOSAL
The Board reviewed a Memorandum of November 29 , 2000 :
DATE : November 29, 2000
TO : BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
THRU : James E . Chandler, County Administrator
Thomas Frame, General Services Director .if
FROM : Fran Powell, Purchasing Manager
SUBJECT : Declare Equipment Surplus and Authorize their Appropriate Disposal
BACKGROUND :
The attached list of equipment has been determined to be excess to the needs of the County and
should be disposed in accordance with the provisions of the Florida State Statutes . The list has
been circulated to various departments to determine their needs for any of the excess equipment
or vehicles. Since the furniture is in varying states of condition and it is vital to free up the space
it occupies at the old Health Department Building, it would be advisable to consider donating the
items to the Coalition for the Homeless of Indian River County Inc. That action would resolve
finding additional area to continue to store the furniture and it would eliminate the multiple
handling of the items. With regard to the computers and monitors, basically these devices are
obsolete to any use or need that the County might have. The best alternative is to authorize the
donation of the computers and monitors to any qualified non-profit corporation within Indian
River County. Failing to find any non-profit group, then the items would be appropriately sent to
be recycled.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners declare the list of excess property as
surplus and authorize their appropriate disposal by offering the furniture to the Coalition for the
Homeless of Indian River County Inc . , and the computer equipment to any qualified non-profit
corporation prior to recycling the items .
DECEMBER 5 , 2000
BK 1 16 PG 263
-21 -
