ON MOTION by Commissioner Adams, SECONDED BY Vice <br />Chairman Stanbridge, the Board unanimously (4-0, <br />Commissioner Macht absent) made the above addition to the <br />agenda. <br />5.A. PROCLAMATION - IN RECOGNITION OF THE VERO BEACH <br />ART CLUB ON ITS 50TH "UNDER THE OAKS" ART SHOW <br />Chairman Ginn read the following proclamation and presented it to Jean Peterson, <br />President of the Vero Beach Art Club, who accepted it with thanks on behalf of the 500+ <br />artists and art lovers in the club. <br />Ms. Peterson advised that this show has been their mayor fund-raiser for many years <br />and they use the proceeds to support community scholarships and art programs. She thanked <br />the community for all their support. <br />PROCLAMATION <br />IN RECOGNITION OF THE VERO BEACH ART CLUB <br />ON ITS FIFTIETH <br />"UNDER THE OAKS" ART SHOW <br />WHEREAS, on November 20, 1936, five people interested in drawing and painting <br />met for the first time to form a group called the Vero Beach Sketch Club, meeting each <br />Monday evening during the winter months to work and discuss all aspects of art Their <br />first exhibition, held in 1937, featured works by artists from Fort Pierce to Sebastian; and <br />WHEREAS, by-laws were drafted in 1951, and the group renamed itself the Vero <br />Beach Art Club in 1954. During its formative years, the club maintained studios in <br />various locations in downtown Vero Beach and established an annual Members' Art <br />Show held at the Old Community Center and the Heritage Center; and <br />WHEREAS, the first outdoor art show was established in 1972, and became an <br />instant success. Presented in the springtime each year since that time, it has gained <br />national recognition as the "Under the Oaks" Outdoor Art Show; and <br />March 6, 2001 <br />2 <br />BK I i 7 P3 261 <br />
