PROCLAMATION AND PRESENTATIONS - PROCLAMATION <br /> - DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF APRIL 2001 AS CHILD ABUSE <br /> PREVENTION MONTH <br /> Chairman Ginn read the following proclamation and presented it to Brenda Parvus <br /> who accepted with thanks for the children . Ms . Parvus also distributed blue ribbons and <br /> pamphlets regarding the Hibiscus Children ' s Center and requested everyone wear the blue <br /> ribbons for the month of April . _ <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF APRIL, 2001 <br /> AS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH <br /> IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br /> WHEREAS , child abuse and neglect is a serious and growing problem affecting <br /> more than 3 . 1 million of our nation' s children annually and over 3 , 500 children locally; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, this societal malignancy known as child abuse and neglect <br /> respects no racial , religion , Gass or geographical boundaries , and , in fact, has been <br /> declared a national emergency; and <br /> I <br /> WHEREAS , increased public awareness of the devastating problem of child <br /> abuse and neglect is our strongest weapon in the fight to end it ; and <br /> WHEREAS , agencies such as Hibiscus Children's Center, through their support <br /> of parent aide programs , parenting classes and educational programs , are making <br /> significant progress toward elimination of this heinous crime against the children and <br /> families of our nation and community. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS that the month of April , 2001 , be designated <br /> as <br /> CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH <br /> in Indian River County, and all citizens are urged to use this time to better understand , <br /> recognize and respond to this grievous problem. <br /> Adopted this 17'" day of April , 2001 . <br /> BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br /> d �-406 <br /> Caroline D .
