Commissioner Macht commented that the Relay is one of the greatest activities in our <br /> community . Each of us know at least 2 people who are no longer with us because of cancer . <br /> The Relay raises a great deal of money and is a lot of fun . The ceremony to light the <br /> luminaries will melt your heart and you will be impressed by the imagination shown in the <br /> teams ' exhibits . <br /> S. B. PROCLAMATION DESIGNA TING MONTH OF MAY 2001 AT MENTAL <br /> HEALTH MONTH IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY FLORIDA <br /> The Chairman presented the following Proclamation to Kristine Sarkauskas of the <br /> Mental Health Association : <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF MAY, 2001 , AS <br /> MENTAL HEALTH MONTH <br /> IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br /> WHEREAS , mental illness affects more than 54 million ( 1 in 5 ) Americans and their <br /> families in a given year, yet continues to be spoken of in whispers and shame ; and <br /> WHEREAS , up to half of all visits to primary care physicians are due to conditions caused <br /> or exacerbated by mental or emotional problems ; and <br /> WHEREAS , many are not familiar with the symptoms of mental illness and are not aware <br /> that mental illness is treatable , and in some cases has biological causes ; and <br /> i <br /> WHEREAS , public awareness and education enhance a community' s understanding of <br /> the issues affecting people with mental illness ; and <br /> MAY 15 , 2001 <br />
