There are several <br /> ways this exemption could be abused and she cited 2 exercises she performed us ' <br /> an <br /> Internal Revenue Service 1040 tax return form . There are several benefits already available <br /> to seniors in the Tax Code . <br /> Commissioner Adams emphasized the pleas she has received from senior <br /> barely keeping their heads above water. The stories related by these seniors s who are <br /> to her eyes and she did not believe there would be more than a few brought tears <br /> who would abuse the <br /> privilege . This is not a giveaway program . These seniors are not asking a for lot <br /> mean a full prescription rather than just a few pills to many of them . but it could <br /> MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner <br /> Stanbridge , SECONDED by Commissioner Adams , <br /> to direct the County Attorney to prepare and bring <br /> back an ordinance granting the additional $ 25 , 000 <br /> exemption to those persons qualifying by virtue of <br /> their adjusted gross income . <br /> Commissioner Tippin noted that he has changed his mind since the exemption was <br /> first brought up and his biggest concern is still enforcement . He believed the exemption p is <br /> vitally important to many of the seniors and stated he would support the motion . <br /> Assistant County Administrator Joe Baird stated that the exemption is only granted <br /> on homestead property and is dependent upon the adjusted gross income of the taxpayer . <br /> the exemption is passed today, it will not go into effect until 2002 and will onlyyer .
