County -initiated request to amend the text of the Recreation and <br />Open Space Element of the Comprehensive Plan to revise <br />the"Cultural" objective and policies. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Adams, SECONDED BY Vice <br />Chairman Stanbridge, the Board unanimously (4-0, <br />Commissioner Macht absent) agreed to continue the public <br />hearings for 9.A.1. and 9.A.4. to June 5, 2001. <br />5.A. PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING MAY 20-26, 2001 AS <br />EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK <br />Chairman Ginn read the following proclamation and presented it to Acting Emergency <br />Medical Services Chief Brian Burkeen. <br />i <br />1 <br />May 22, 2001 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF MAY 20-26, 2001 AS <br />EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK <br />WHEREAS, EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES is a vital public service; and the <br />members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those <br />in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and <br />WHEREAS, ACCESS TO QUALITY EMERGENCY CARE dramatically improves the <br />survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and has <br />traditionally served as the safety net of America's health care system; and <br />WHEREAS, EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES TEAMS consist of emergency <br />physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, educators, <br />administrators, and others; and the members of emergency medical services teams engage <br />in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their <br />lifesaving skills; and <br />WHEREAS, AMERICANS BENEFIT DAILY from the knowledge and skills of these <br />highly trained individuals; it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of <br />emergency medical services providers by designating Emergency Medical Services Week; <br />and <br />BK <br />8 <br />
