ON MOTION by Vice Chairman Stanbridge , SECONDED BY
Commissioner Macht, the Board unanimously approved exercise
of the purchase contract for the Walker parcels of the Oyster
Bar Salt Marsh LAAC site , and authorized staff to proceed with
closing on the subject parcels in coordination with the Florida
Communities Trust as a 50 % cost- share partner, as
recommended in the memorandum .
CONTRACT WILL BE ON FILE
IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD
WHEN EXECUTED AND RECEIVED
9 . 11 . 1 . PUBLIC DISCUSSION ITEM - BIBBLE IRVIN -
ELECTRICITY CONSERVATION - SAND DREDGING UPDATE
Bibble Irvin mentioned the electrical power problems and " black- outs " being
experienced in California . He had seen on a Fox News Network program where they
suggested that all local governments encourage their citizens to minimize their usage of
electrical power . He urged the Board to consider a commercial on a local TV channel to
encourage the people of Indian River County to conserve electricity because this problem
will get bigger . He recalled when he was a child that his bedroom could be seen from the
dining room table by his father ; if he left his bedroom light on , there was no dessert that
night for him .
Mr . Irvin advised that he is still monitoring the sand dredging at Patrick Air Force
Base . The beach- goers there face escarpments and very hot sand to sit on . He hoped there
would be a Beach Advisory Committee meeting soon because he had a lot of information to
contribute . In response to his inquiry , Commissioner Adams advised that a Coastal Engineer
is not presently on the County ' s staff.
June 12 , 2001
46
