Keating, AICP J ✓ <br />Community Development irector <br />1 <br />FROM: Sasan Rohani, AICP S y1 <br />Chief, Long -Range Planning <br />DATE: August 6, 2002 <br />SUBJECT: REV1rW AND CONSIDERATION OF RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION <br />MITIGATION PROGRAM GRANT CONTRACT <br />It is requested that the data herein presented be given formal consideration by the Board of County <br />Commissioners at its regular meeting of August 13, 2002. <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />Recently, the Florida Department of Community Affairs (DCA) notified county planning staff that <br />the county because of its designation as a Front Porch Community, is eligible for a $55,000 <br />Residential Construction Mitigation Program (RCMP) Grant for the Gifford area <br />The Residential Construction Mitigation Program is part of a greater effort called the Hurricane Loss <br />Mitigation Program's Low to Moderate Income Project. The Florida Department of Community <br />Affairs has been designated to administer the Hurricane Loss Mitigation Program (Huva)) as <br />authorized by Section 215.559, Florida Statutes (2001). The purpose of the HLMP is to develop <br />programs to improve wind resistance of site -built residences and manufactured homes. The Low to <br />Moderate Income Project leverages local housing rehabilitation dollars (SHIP, HOME, CDBG) by <br />funding simultaneous mitigation retrofits on homes undergoing general rehabilitation. <br />In the Gifford area, RCMP grant funds can be used as part of the county's SHIP or CDBG programs. <br />Activities eligible for RCMP grant funding are repair or replacement of roofs walls, floors, <br />foundations, doors, and windows. <br />August 13, 2002 <br />16 <br />
