Commissioner Tippin felt he could support the motion to assist those who need it the <br /> most . <br /> Commissioner Macht felt that the County ' s taxes are lower than in many other areas <br /> of the state and the quality of the services offered to our citizens is very high . Government <br /> must react to the services demanded by citizens . Our administrative and financing <br /> departments are the lowest taxing organizations in this County and the department heads are <br /> very cooperative about asking for only what they absolutely need and nothing more . <br /> Commissioner Stanbridge reminded the Board that the citizens of this County voted <br /> for this program in 1998 by 58 % to 41 % . <br /> Chairman Ginn still wished to add a sunset provision to the program as she felt that <br /> there were no adequate estimates of the cost . <br /> Commissioner Macht agreed that he could support the program with a sunset <br /> provision but not without . <br /> ON MOTION by Commissioner Stanbridge , <br /> SECONDED by Commissioner Adams , the Board , <br /> by a 3 - 2 vote ( Chairman Ginn and Commissioner <br /> Macht opposed) adopted Ordinance 2001 - 021 <br /> pursuant to Section 196 . 075 , Florida Statutes (2000 ) , <br /> allowing an additional $ 25 , 000 homestead <br /> exemption for taxes levied by Indian River County <br /> and its dependent special districts and municipal <br /> services taxing units for certain persons who have <br /> attained age sixty- five who meet the constitutional <br /> and statutory requirements for such additional <br /> AUGUST 21 , 2001 2 <br /> - 34 - <br />
