<br /> letter is being drafted that outlines the three components of what will constitute a formal
<br /> offer and he hoped to get that signed this week . An additional comment was made by the
<br /> Mayor of Vero Beach wherein he indicated that he had a verbal okay on the matching funds .
<br /> There are certain procedures which must be followed . The Board of the Florida
<br /> Communities Trust must meet and approve the proposal . There are no existing guarantees .
<br /> We have every reason to believe we will be successful , but we have no verbal guarantees .
<br /> 13 . D . 2 . COMMISSIONER MACHT - SAFETY COMMITTEE -
<br /> CONSIDERATION OF EXPANSION OF THE JAIL BECAUSE OF
<br /> OVERCROWDING
<br /> Commissioner Macht then advised that he had been directed by the Board to convene
<br /> the Safety Committee to explore expansion of the Jail . The meeting was convened and there
<br /> was agreement for the need for expansion relatively soon . Other considerations are
<br /> sentencing and possible alternatives , such as tents for low- risk prisoners as has been done
<br /> in St . Lucie County , The Committee has agreed to convene monthly to obtain information
<br /> and to try to make a report to the Board on what will be needed and make
<br /> some
<br /> recommendations on how to go about it . It will be very expensive and it needs all the
<br /> consideration that the Committee and the Commission put toward it .
