At that time, staff had received <br />a petition from some people who were in opposition. (COPY ON FILE WITH THE <br />BACKUP IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD) Staff had tallied the <br />number of opposed and the number in favor and it was determined that 69% of the property <br />owners were in favor of the project. Staff's recommendation was to move forward with the <br />project. <br />In response to Commissioner Adams, Public Works Director James Davis advised <br />that this project will be paved with asphalt as opposed to the alternative paving method <br />because of the nature of the subdivision. <br />The Chairman opened the public hearing. and asked if anyone wished to be heard in <br />this matter. <br />Jerry Saturday, 1206 36th Avenue SW, advised that she represented petitioners <br />opposed to this paving and drainage improvement. Those who petitioned originally for the <br />project were mistakenly told the County would pay for it and she, therefore, thought the <br />original petition was invalid. Many of the homeowners cannot afford an assessment which <br />September 3, 2002 <br />88 <br />r!! <br />
