14. COMMISSIONER ITEMS <br />14.A. COMMISSIONER PETER D. O'BRYAN, CHAIRMAN <br />14.A.1. OYSTER REEF PROJECT <br />Chairman O'Bryan requested that fellow Commissioners consider and approve a grant <br />application to the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program, and authorize County <br />matching funds in the amount up to $50,000 for expansion of the oyster reef project. He <br />conveyed that time is of the essence since the application must be completed and submitted by <br />January 15, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Solari, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Flescher, to approve the <br />grant application to the Indian River Lagoon National <br />Estuary Program, and authorize matching funding in the <br />amount of $50,000 for expansion of the oyster reef <br />project, as requested in the memorandum of January 7, <br />2014. <br />Chip Swindell, Ecotech Consultants, Inc. provided the Board with an update on the <br />ongoing oyster reef project, the health of the reef, and the water quality. <br />Discussion ensued regarding the methodology of the project, sharing the data of the <br />project's success with the public, and tracking total maximum daily load (TMDL) credits. <br />Administrator Baird said that he would identify a funding source if the grant project is <br />successful, and bring it back to the Board. <br />The Chairman CALLED THE QUESTION and the <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br />January 14, 2014 13 <br />
