<br />Proper prenatal care is important during pregnancy and can reduce the risk of having a low birth weight
<br />baby. Table 32 shows the counts and percentages of live births classified as being "low birth weight,"
<br />or weighing less than 2500 grams for the years 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. During this time, the rate
<br />of low birth weight births in Florida remained relatively stable, while the rate in Indian River decreased
<br />from 7.9% in 2010 to 7.0% in 2013.
