PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY, 2015, AS <br />Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month <br />• <br />WHEREAS, Intimate partner violence is a serious and deadly crime in our society, likewise teen <br />dating violence is similarly dangerous, yet only 33 percent of teens tell anyone about the abuse; and <br />WHEREAS, teen dating violence takes many forms including abuse through social media, <br />physical, emotional, psychological, sexual assault, and stalking, furthermore, 81 percent of parents <br />believe that teen dating violence is an issue; and <br />WHEREAS, about 1.5 million high school students nationwide are physically abused by their <br />dating partner in a single year; and <br />WHEREAS, young people who have been victims of dating violence have been found to carry <br />abusive patterns into future relationships; and <br />WHEREAS, Females between the ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rate of intimate <br />partner violence, almost triple the national average, as one -in -three adolescent girls in the United <br />States is a victims of abuse from a dating partner; and <br />WHEREAS, SafeSpace, Inc. is promoting Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention <br />Month, offering education for teens, parents, and the community, to increase their knowledge regarding <br />this issue in an effort to promote healthy, safe and non-violent relationships throughout society. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA the month of February, 2015, be <br />designated as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month in Indian River County. <br />Adopted this 10th day of February, 2015. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />IND QN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Wesley S.
