<br />Upon Motion of Commissioner Hamilton, seconded by Commissioner Warren and
<br />carried, it was moved that the present organization remain as is.
<br />Chairman Graves then took over the Chair and Commissioner Warren suggested that
<br />an assistant be employed for E. E. Carter, Road & Bridge Superintendent, which was agreed
<br />upon by the Board with the understanding that Mr. Carter would select his assistant.
<br />Mr. Pfarr of the Roseland Men's Club together with their Secretary and Treasurer
<br />appeared before the Board and requested assistance in removing or spraying the hyacinths
<br />in the Sebastian River. Mr, Sherman N. Smith, Jr. was appointed to work with the members of
<br />the Roseland Men's Club to see if some assistance might be obtained from the South Florida
<br />Flood Control District and/or from the Fish and Game Department,
<br />Mrs. Clarence Helsel and others appeared before the Board making comments about
<br />the Florida Forestry Service and a committee consisting of Commissioner Waddell and Commissioner
<br />Warren together with Sherman N. Smith, Jr. was appointed to contact Mr. Henry C. Peeples.
<br />,District Forester and report back as to their findings.
<br />Mr. Gibbs appeared before the Board and stated that the American Legion under
<br />the direction of Commander Mason would hold their second annual.fair at the same time and
<br />same place.
<br />Sherman N. Smith, Jr., Attorney, was requested to file a suit against Johnnie
<br />Jones in order that he support his children.
<br />Mrs. Anne Christensen. County welfare Case Worker appeared before the Board and
<br />made a report of her activities for December and said report was filed with Douglas Baker,
<br />Clerk,

<br />it was prdered that 1otice for bids be published for a pickup truck and hydraulic Moving
<br />machine.
<br />The following were appointed deputy sheriff's by L. B. O'Steen. Sheriff and
<br />Douglas Baker, Clerk announced that said appointments had been filed with him: -

<br />of County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, met at the
<br />Court House in regular
<br />meeting at 9:00 o'clock .A. M. Tuesday, January 5, 1954, with the
<br />following members present:
<br />Commissioners W. C. Graves, Jr., Chairman; Aubrey L. Waddell.
