educate relevant legislators on the issues which could impede the sale of the City of Vero Beach <br />Electric Utility to Florida Power and Light. <br />Several Board members voiced support for getting a lobbyist to assist in this important <br />economic development issue. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Solari, <br />SECONDED by Chairman Flescher, to direct staff to <br />coordinate and engage with Indian River Shores about the <br />possibility of contributing to the initiative to hire a <br />lobbyist and prepare a plan to educate relevant state and <br />local leaders on the plight of the municipal utility <br />ratepayers, including those within City limits and in the <br />unincorporated areas of the County. <br />Commissioner Zorc asked Commissioner Solari if he would amend his Motion to include <br />other ratepayers in the community who may want to help in these efforts. <br />MOTION WAS AMENDED by Commissioner Solari, <br />SECONDED by Chairman Flescher, to include direction <br />to staff to discuss with all interested parties the possibility <br />of contributing to the initiative to hire a lobbyist and <br />prepare a plan to educate relevant state and local leaders. <br />There was a brief conversation about the possibility of issuing a Request for <br />Qualifications (RFQ) for the lobbyist. <br />Administrator Baird explained that the lobbyist process works differently than other <br />services, and suggested that the best option for the Board today would be to allocate $100,000 <br />for a lobbyist. <br />BK 144 PG 239 <br />August 20, 2013 61 <br />
