441 <br />B B_ -aQL.QIIQA <br />On Motion of Commissioner Allison Warren, seconded by Commissioner Aubrey <br />Waddell, the following Resolution was unanimously adopted: <br />Be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br />Florida, that due to the.death of L. B. O'Steen, Sheriff of Indian River County. -Florida on <br />October 6,. 1954, that the ballots heretofore printed by the Board of County Commissioners <br />for the General Election to be held November 2, 1954, are herewith declared null and void <br />and ordered destroyed. That the Board does herewith determine that the ballots must, by <br />necessity of time, be reprinted providing for election of a sheriff of Indian River County, <br />Florida, and that such reprinting must begin on October 13, 1954 at 9:00 o'clock A. M., and <br />the Board of County Commissioners do herewith advise the Indian River County Executive <br />Committee of all political parties that each such County Executive Committee shall have until <br />y <br />October 13, 1954 at 9:00 o'clock A. M. to select a nominee for their party for the office of <br />Sheriff of Indian River County, and that all such nominations by such County Executive Commit- <br />tees received by the Board of County Commissioners by said deadline shall be printed on the <br />General Election Ballot as the nominee of such party for the office of Sheriff. <br />a <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk of this Board of County Commissioners is <br />herewith directed to immediately deliver a certified copy of this Resolution to the Chairman <br />of Indian River County's Executive Committee of each political party. That if the Chairman <br />can not be readily located a copy shall be delivered to the Vice -Chairman or any other member <br />r <br />of said committee. <br />r <br />Sheriff's Bond for Sam Joyce in the sum of $2,000.00 with the Home Indemnity <br />Company as surety was approved by the Board upon motion of Commissioner Waddell, seconded by <br />Commissioner Warren and carried. <br />J. E .S Q Q Q I 1 Q N -- L. B. O•Steen <br />On Motion of Commissioner Hamilton, seconded by Commissioner Warren and carried, <br />the following Resolution was unanimously adopted: <br />WHEREAS, L. B. O'Steen was elected Sheriff of Indian River County, Florida, <br />and took office in the year 1942 and held such office as Sheriff until his untimely death on the <br />6th day of October, 1954; and, <br />WHEREAS, among his other duties of said office, the said L. B. O'Steen attended <br />the meetings of the Board of County Commissioners and there served and assisted said Board <br />In the performance of its public duties; Now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River Countys <br />Florida, that this Board does herewith express its sincere bereavement in the loss of this <br />Board and the people of Indian River County, Florida, of their Sheriff and this Board does <br />herewith extend to the family of the said L. B. O'Steen its sympathy in the loss of their <br />husband and father. <br />40 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT a copy of this Resolution be spread on the minutes <br />of this Board, a copy be furnished to Mrs. O'Steen and a copy be delivered to the press and <br />radio of'the County. <br />
