I <br /> P . V . C . pipe (4 " through 12 " ) shall be rated for a minimum working <br /> pressure of 150 psi . P . V . C . pipe shall be pigmented during extrusion to provide <br /> a light blue color. The pipe shall be marked the entire length with three color <br /> coded stripes . These stripes shall be applied in the manner as the required <br /> ASTM coding using permanent ink with the word " Water Main" in 14nch <br /> high letters appearing one or more times every 244nches . As an alternative to <br /> lettering, pipe may be continuously layered with plastic identification tape <br /> marked " Water" . <br /> P . V . C . pipe sizes shall conform to the following : <br /> a. Pipe sizes 4 " through 12 " shall conform to AWWA C900 and have a <br /> minimum wall thickness of DR- 18 . <br /> b . Pipe sizes over 12-inch shall be manufactured in accordance with <br /> UNI-B4145 , shall meet AWWA C 905 standards for potable water <br /> application requirements, and shall be DR48 wall thickness . <br /> B . Fittings <br /> All underground fittings shall be ductile iron with mechanically restrained joints . <br /> Fittings shall conform to the following : <br /> 1 ) Fittings for pipe sizes 4 " through 12 " shall be compact ductile iron <br /> conforming to AWWA C 153 . Fittings shall have a minimum pressure rating of <br /> 350 psi . Fittings shall have mechanically restrained joints . <br /> 2) Fittings for pipe sizes over 12 " shall be ductile or cast iron conforming to <br /> AWWA C110 . Fittings shall have a minimum pressure rating of 250 psi . <br /> Fittings shall have mechanically restrained joints . <br /> 3 ) All fittings shall be lined and coated as specified for ductile iron pipe. <br /> 4) Retainer glands for fitting restraint shall not be permitted . <br /> C . Joints <br /> 1 ) Push on Joints - Joints for PVC pipe shall be bell and spigot, rubber gasket <br /> compression, push-on type as specified in AWWA C111 (ANSI A21 . 11 ) . <br /> Special fittings and joints shall be considered for specific installation. <br /> 2) Mechanical Joints - Mechanical joints shall be used on fittings for changes <br /> in horizontal or vertical alignment on all pipes, up to 12-inches in <br /> diameter. All mechanical joints shall be restrained as further outlined in <br /> these specifications .
