Tape shall be furnished in manufacturers' standard roll length, meeting the "American <br /> Public Works Association" (APWA) color code, and shall be imprinted continuously <br /> with the following words, unless otherwise approved : <br /> " CAUTION BURIED WATER MAIN BELOW" <br /> Detectable buried warning tape shall be equal to or better than "PRO-LINE" <br /> underground utility marking tape as manufactured by Pro -Line Safety Products Co . , <br /> 1099 Atlantic Drive, Unit # l , West Chicago , IL . <br /> F . Detectable Buried Trace Wire <br /> Trace wire shall be continuous # 14 THHN, single conductor copper wire . PVC color <br /> sheathing shall meet the color code of the "American Public Works Association" <br /> (APWA) . <br /> 3 . EXECUTION OF WORK <br /> The installation and testing of the water main shall be done in accordance with AWWA <br /> (ANSI) C600 for ductile iron pipe or AWWA M23 for P .V . C . pipe, plus the <br /> additional requirements described herein or shown on the Plans . <br /> A . Preparation <br /> 1 . Clearing - The Contractor shall perform all clearing necessary, where <br /> applicable, for the proper installation of all water mains , and <br /> appurtenances in the locations shown on the drawings . Plantings, <br /> shrubbery, trees, utility poles or structures subject to damage resulting from the <br /> excavation shall be transplanted, relocated, braced, shored or otherwise <br /> protected and preserved unless otherwise directed by the Engineer. <br /> B . Trenching <br /> 1 . Pavement Cutting - Asphaltic pavements shall be cut by pneumatic <br /> hammers or mechanical pavement cutters ; saws , or other method <br /> approved by the Engineer. Concrete pavement or concrete base <br /> pavement shall be sawed. Both types of pavement shall be cut and removed <br /> RELor to any excavation . <br /> 2 . Excavation - The excavation in which the pipes and appurtenances are to be <br /> constructed shall be excavated in open cut, except where otherwise <br /> stated on the Plans , in such a manner to such depths and widths as will <br /> give suitable room for bracing , supporting, pumping , draining and for <br /> removing from the excavation any material which the Engineer may decide is <br /> inadequate for foundation. The maximum trench width at the top of the <br /> pipe shall be in accordance with the trenching details . <br /> The Contractor may, where it will not interfere with the work or adjacent <br /> structures or property , slope the sides of excavation.
