SECTION 04230 - REINFORCED UNIT MASONRY <br /> A . Materials: <br /> ' Block : ASTM C-90-70, cured 28 days <br /> Y <br /> Mortar: Type " S " (ASTM C 270-71 ) <br /> Lime : ASTM C 207- 76 <br /> Sand : Clean Masons Sand <br /> ' Water : Potable <br /> B . General Requirements : <br /> ' 1 . Set blocks with 3 /8 " full , flush joints in running bond . Use a masonry interlock <br /> (50% masonry bond) at all intersecting walls where possible . All work not plumb, <br /> true and accurate shall be replaced. <br /> 2 . Store all materials off the ground and protect from all dirt and foreign material . <br /> 3 . Re-temper as required to maintain initial consistency. Do not allow the mortar to <br /> stand more than one ( 1 ) hour without retempering . Discard the mortar if it has <br /> begun to set . <br /> 4 . Provide Dur-O -Wall , (or approved equal) , truss-type, horizontal reinforcing at <br /> ' every other block course . At door and window openings, provide continuous Dur- <br /> O-Wall horizontal reinforcing at the first and second block courses above and <br /> below the opening or extend the reinforcing back a minimum of two (2) feet from <br /> the opening . Extend Dur-O-Wall reinforcing 1 - 1 /2 " into concrete columns . Lap <br /> splices shall not be less than 6 " . <br /> ' 5 . All cells designated on the drawings to be filled with concrete are to be kept clean <br /> of any and all debris . Provide inspection/clean-out holes at the bottom course . <br /> 6 .
