After the sod is laid, a top dressing of clean <br /> ' sand shall be evenly applied over the entire surface and thoroughly washed in, (if <br /> determined necessary by the Landscape Architect) . Note : Sand will not be <br /> required on properly laid sod . <br /> ' E . Alllant beds unless otherwise se noted, including tree saucers, shall be top-dressed <br /> with 3 " shredded cypress bark mulch (American Wood Products type "B " or <br /> ' equal) . <br /> F . The amount of pruning on new plant material shall be limited to the minimum <br /> ' necessary to remove dead or injured branches to compensate for the loss of roots <br /> as a result of transplanting operations. Pruning shall be done in such a manner as <br /> not to change the natural habit or shape of a plant . All cuts over one-half ( 1 /2) <br /> inch diameter shall be treated with an approved tree paint . <br /> G. Seeding operations shall conform to D . O . T . specifications, section 570, unless <br /> otherwise specified . Areas to be seeded shall be cultivated to a depth of four (4) <br /> inches below finish grade and treated with 6-6-6 fertilizer ( 100% organic) with <br /> minor elements at a rate of twenty (20) pounds per 1000 square feet . The fertilizer <br /> shall be thoroughly incorporated into the top three (3 ) to four (4) inches of soil . <br /> Do not use wet seed or seed which is moldy or otherwise damaged in transit or <br /> storage. Provide and sow Brown Top Millet or Italian Rye seed as seasonally <br /> ' appropriate, and Common Bermuda, in addition to the Argentine Bahia, at a rate <br /> of 12 lb/ 1000 S .F . . Sow seed using a spreader or seeding machine . Do not use <br /> seed when wind velocity exceeds 5 miles per hour. Distribute evenly over entire <br /> ' area by sowing equal quantity in two (2) directions at right angles to each other. <br /> Final lawn area shall be reasonably free of large clods, roots, and other material <br /> which will interfere with the work of subsequent mowing and maintenance <br /> ' operations . If there are areas that do not show evidence of uniform grass growth <br /> at the end of eight (8 ) weeks after seeding, the Contractor shall reseed in the <br /> original specified manner, until uniform growth is achieved . <br /> 3 . INSTRUCTIONS <br /> A. MAINTENANCE <br /> 1 . The Contractor shall maintain all plant materials in a first class condition from <br /> ' the beginning of landscape construction until the landscape work is accepted <br /> by the Owner, including proper watering. <br /> ' 2 . Maintenance shall include, but not be limited to watering of turf and planting <br /> beds, mowing, cultivation, weeding, pruning, disease and pest control, <br /> replacement of dead or unacceptable materials, straightening turf or planter <br /> ' settlement areas, guy wire repair and tightening, wash-outs, and any other <br /> procedure consistent with good horticultural practice necessary to insure <br /> normal, vigorous and healthy growth of all work under this contract . <br /> 2A - 6 <br />
