SAC / DASIE HOPE CENTER <br /> The Dasie Hope Center' s program is designed to follow the methodology of improving academic <br /> performance, teaching violence prevention through improved conflict resolution skills, reducing <br /> incidents of violence both in and out of school. The curriculum is modeled after the structure of <br /> national programs which include the following areas of study: <br /> Language Arts : Reading Buddies Club is designed to increase literacy and language skills <br /> Study Skills : After School tutoring is designed for at-risk students whose lack of study <br /> and comprehension skills may hamper their academic achievement <br /> Academic Subjects: Computer training is designed to teach basic computer skills <br /> Tutoring: Students will participate in one-on-one literacy training sessions <br /> Community Based: Inter-personal skill development is taught to students and youth are <br /> encouraged to participate in community activities to help them learn how to become productive <br /> community leaders. <br /> 4. List staffing needed for your program, including required experience and estimated <br /> hours per week in program for each staff member and/or volunteers (This section <br /> should conform with the information in the Position Listing on the Budget Narrative <br /> Worksheet). <br /> Position One - Director (40 hours per week) <br /> The Board of Directors has approved Verna Wright to be the Center' s Program Director. Ms. <br /> Wright worked for the Indian River County School District for 19 years and served as a Program <br /> Director and Coordinator at the Gifford Youth Activity Center. <br /> Paid Staff <br /> Verna Wright 40 hours weekly. <br /> Part-time Asst. ( 1 ) 32 hours weekly <br /> Part-time Assist. (2) 32 hours weekly <br /> Volunteers are utilized to provide all program services. <br /> 5. How will the target population be made aware of the program? <br /> The target population is made aware of program services via newsletters, church announcements, <br /> flyers posted in schools, parent support group presentations, civic league presentations, radio, <br /> TV, door-to-door recruitment and referrals. <br /> 6. How will the program be accessible to target population (i.e. location, transportation, <br /> hours of operation)? <br /> The center is centrally located and within walking distance of many members of the targeted <br /> population. The center hours are 10:00 a.m. — 6:30 p .m. Monday — Friday. <br /> 57q <br />
