Johns River Water Management District , The Conservation Fund , Pelican <br /> Island Preservation Society , Brad Smith Associates , and Lewis Environmental Services . <br /> ' Various publications have provided the public with information concerning the proposed <br /> habitat restoration and subsequent plans for providing public-use facilities . Such <br /> newspaper articles have appeared in the Vero Beach Press Journal on July 12 , August <br /> 5 , and December 11 , 2000 . The Pelican Island NWR Progress Report was published in <br /> December 2000 . <br /> On March 5 , 2001 , the Refuge manager was the guest on a Community Focus Show <br /> held on WQCS radio in Fort Pierce . The proposed habitat restoration was presented <br /> along with other Refuge topics . <br /> As part of the public scoping phase of the Comprehensive Conservation Plan for <br /> Pelican Island NWR , 5 public meetings were held in which the conceptual phase of the <br /> proposed habitat restoration project was discussed . Three neighborhood meetings <br /> were held : <br /> May 3 , 2000 Immaculate Conception Catholic Church , Melbourne Beach ; <br /> May 25 , 2000 Environmental Learning Center, Wabasso Island ; and <br /> June 1 , 2000 Chapel by the Sea , Melbourne Beach . <br /> There were also two countywide meetings : <br /> June 14 , 2000 Sebastian River High School , Sebastian , and <br /> June 15 , 2000 Florida Institute of Technology , Melbourne . <br /> Numerous presentations and discussions have been held at meetings of public groups : <br /> ' Oct. 26 , 2000 Meeting of the Subcommittee on Managed Marshes , <br /> Sebastian <br /> Nov . 15 , 2000 Meeting of the Sebastian Historical Society <br /> Dec. 11 , 2000 Meeting of the Environmental Learning Center' s Volunteers , <br /> Wabasso Island <br /> Jan . 15 , 2001 Meeting of the Pelican Island Audubon Society , Vero Beach <br /> Jan . 22 , 2001 Meeting of the Pelican Island Preservation Society , <br /> Wabasso Island <br /> March 5 , 2001 Meeting of the Board Members of the Pelican Island <br /> Audubon Society , Vero Beach <br /> March 14 , 2001 Meeting of the Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway <br /> Advocacy Group , Indialantic <br /> March 24 , 2001 National Audubon Society Workshop , Wabasso Island <br />
