It helps the
irrigation manager to determine when groundwater levels are optimal The WTOW also improves
irrigation efficiency and conserves water by providing an empirical tool to more accurately determine
irrigation scheduling needs.
The estimated life span of the WTOW is at least 1 (one) year. The life of the WTOW can be assured
and usually increased by developing and carrying out a good operation and maintenance program.
This practice will require you to perform periodic operations to maintain satisfactory performance.
Here are some recommendations to help you develop a good operation and maintenance program.
GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
• Consider placing wood posts on either side of the WTOW to prevent damage from normal grove
operations. This is not required, only suggested.
• Follow the water table management plan provided with the WTOW.
INSPECTIONS
The WTOW should be inspected routmely to make sure it is functioning properly. Anything needing
maintenance should be repaired immediately.
VIOLATIONS
Failure to carry out the operation and maintenance required for the WTOW may result in the
reimbursement of the FDACS cost share dollars used to purchase it.
CONTACT THE INDIAN RIVER SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT FOR
ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE YOU MAY NEED FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE PLAN.
Form date January 2003
