Board then adjourned. <br />i <br />1 <br />1 <br />'i <br />ATTEST: <br />CLERK <br />- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - .............. <br />---..--------- - -------- <br />------- - - - mm <br />--------------------- - ----------- <br />TUESDAY, <br />----------TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1956 <br />THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS of Indian River County, Florida, met at the <br />Courthouse in Vero Beach, Florida in a regular meeting at 9:00 o'clock A. M. October 4, 1956. <br />All members were present. Also present were E. E. Carter, Road & Bridge Superintendent, <br />Sam T. Joyce, Sheriff, George Heath Attorney, and Douglas Baker, Clerk. <br />Messrs. Levine and McLeod, Indian River County representatives of the Florida <br />Board of Forestry appeared before the Board and submitted asfinancial expenditure report <br />refelecting the manner in which $18,539.78 was expended in the fire protection operation in <br />Indian River County for the State fiscal year ending June 30, 1956. Said report was signed <br />by Mr. Henry C. Peeples, District Forester and it was ordered filed with the Clerk. <br />It was moved by Commissioner Waddell, seconded by Commissioner McCullers and <br />carried, that Sam Joyce, Sheriff be authorized to purchase a Chevrolet automobile for the <br />Sheriff's office from the excess fees of said office. <br />r <br />It was moved by Commissioner Hamilton, seconded by Commissioner Watts and <br />carried, that Sam Joyce be authorized to purchase another car radio for the sheriff's office <br />to cost approximately $500.00 or less. <br />James Lester Bishop was appointed a Deputy Sheriff from Precinct #3, Vero Beach <br />by Sam Joyce, Sheriff, and Douglas Baker announced that said appointment had been filed with <br />him. <br />Deputy Sheriff's Bond for James Lester Bishop in the sum of $1,000.00 with <br />St. Paul Mercury Indemnity Company as surety was approved. <br />The sum of $50.00 was authorized for Bob Jennings, County Sanitarian to attend <br />�a <br />1i the yearly convention of the State Board of Health to be held October 17 to 20th inclusive at <br />Clearwater, Florida. <br />E. E. Carter and D. B. McCullers who were appointed a committee to tabulate <br />bids opened at the September 4th meeting. The following are their recommendations: <br />1. 28 Thousand Board feet of bridge lumber - Oak lumber was selected over Yellow Pine - John <br />Cashion. <br />3a and 3b. For materials at plant and applied on road - Swords & Sons. <br />4. No bids received for creosotes bridge lumber. <br />5. 210 bbls. of Hi -Early Portland cement - Crosby Builders Supply <br />6. Three thousand tons of road rock - Naranja Rock Company <br />7. One thousand tons Grade B Amiesite, Tampa Coal Company <br />F, <br />�o <br />
