<br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, met at the
<br />Courthouse in Vero Beach, Florida in a regular meeting at 9:00 o'clock A. M., April 2, 1957.
<br />Present were D. B. McCullers, Jr., Robert W. Graves, W. C. Graves, Jr. and Donald Macdonald.
<br />Absent was J. J. P. Hamilton. Also present were E. E. Carter, Superintendent of Roads,
<br />Charles Smith, Attorney, Douglas Baker, Clerk and Katherine Morrison, Secretary.
<br />In the absence of J. J. P. Hamilton, Chairman, Commissioner McCullers, Vice
<br />Chairman took over the chair and asked if there were any changes or additions to be made to
<br />the minutes. Upon Motion made by Commissioner Robert Graves, seconded by Commissioner Mac
<br />Idonald and unanimously carried, minutes of March 5th regular meeting and March 22nd special
<br />f
<br />meeting were approved as read.
<br />Mr. Fred Ballou, Assistant State Auditor appeared before the Board requesting
<br />,that the salary of the Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners be raised from $275.00 per
<br />month to $350.00 per month. He stated that because of the increased volumn of work required
<br />of the Clerk and to be comparable to that paid by the surrounding counties he thought a salary
<br />of $350.00 per month would be more in line. After considerable discussion in the matter and
<br />,pupon Motion made by Commissioner W. C. Graves, Jr., seconded by Commissioner Macdonald and
<br />ti
<br />;unanimously carried, the Board agreed to raise the Clerk's salary to $350.00 per month beginn-
<br />1,ing the lst of April, 1957.
<br />Upon Motion made by Commissioner W. C. Graves, seconded by Commissioner Mac-
<br />donald and unanimously carried, the Board authorized a part time janitor be employed at a rate
<br />of $1.10 per hour.

<br />to said meeting to meet at the Courthouse
<br />at 12 noon
<br />on above date.
