Application for Funding Assistance <br /> Florida Department of Law Enforcement <br /> Justice Assistance Grant - County-wide <br /> id <br /> General Project Information <br /> Project Title : INDIAN RIVER COUNTY PLANNING <br /> Project Sequence No: 1 <br /> Subgrant Recipient: Indian River County Board of Commissioners <br /> Implementing Agency: Indian River Board of County Commissioners <br /> Project Start Date: 10/1 /2007 End Date : 9/30/2008 <br /> Problem Identification <br /> The Substance Abuse Council of Indian River County is seeking funding to continue with the <br /> planning and coordination of the JAG Bryne Anti-Drug Grant program in Indian River County . The <br /> Council has administered the Bryne Anti-Drug Grant for Indian River County since 1990. All project <br /> related goals were met through the grants tenure. These goals include: <br /> --Conduct Substance Abuse Policy Board meetings . <br /> --Write issue / research papers. <br /> --Conduct monitoring/coordinating reviews . <br /> --Review quarterly performance reports prior to submission to the State Administrating Agency. <br /> --Review financial reports prior to submission to the State Administrating Agency. <br /> --Provide technical assistance to a specified local projects. <br /> Indian River County continues to experience a high level of drug related activity. The focus of the <br /> Council's Administration component is to provide a mechanism for identifying gaps in current <br /> services and county needs . This mechanism includes the analysis of: <br /> --A County wide youth drug assessment survey <br /> --A county emergency room drug related admissions <br /> --Drug related deaths as reported by the Medical Examiners office <br /> --Continued coordination and monitoring of alcohol and other drug abuse efforts within Indian River <br /> County <br /> The analysis of this information plays an integral part in establishing priority needs and gap <br /> analysis within Indian River County. <br /> Based upon the most current needs assessment, the following has been established as short and <br /> long term goals for the Council : <br /> Short Term Goals <br /> --Ongoing prevention education specifically geared at new drug trends <br /> i .e. : prescription abuse , combining drugs or rolling <br /> --Community awareness programs geared at different population groups for the need for <br /> prevention , treatment and interdiction <br /> --Acquisition of funding and development of programs for co-occurring mental health and <br /> substance abuse related treatment issues <br /> Long Term Goal <br /> establish an adolescent treatment facility within Indian River County <br /> By providing monitoring of the new drug trends , alcohol and other drug offenses and the continued <br /> coordination of substance abuse prevention and interdiction services the desired project outcomes <br /> and community wide needs can be achieved . <br /> Application Ref # 2008-JAGC-645 Section #2 Page 1 of 3 <br /> Contract -JAGC-INRI- - - <br />
