<br />Douglas Baker, Clerk of Circuit Court, having certified the candidates qualified
<br />for County offices, the following named persons were placed on the official Democratic Ballot
<br />of Indian River County for the Second Primary Election to be held Tuesday, September 30th,
<br />for the offices designated:
<br />For County Commissioner, District No. 2

<br />J. J. Holmes
<br />For County Dommissioner, District No. 4
<br />Joe S. Earman
<br />Horace H. Gifford
<br />For Committeeman, Precinct No. 4A
<br />William E. Alexander
<br />Paul R. Robertson
<br />For Committeewoman, Precinct No. 1B
<br />Meta H. Chesser
<br />Dorothy V. Rogers
<br />Mrs. Anne Christensen, County Welfare Case Worker, appeared before the Board and gave
<br />her report for the Month of August, and said report was ordered filed by the Clerk.
<br />A discussion was held on the building of the County Home and upon Motion made by
<br />Commissioner W. C. Graves, Jr., seconded by Commissioner Hamilton and unanimously carried, the
<br />Board approved the price of $419.40 by Mr. Sta rrett, Architect from Fort Pierce for the plans
<br />and specifications for the home. Further upon Motion made by Commissioner W. C. Graves, Jr.,
<br />seconded by Commissioner Hamilton and carried, it was agreed that the County herewith request
<br />the City of Vero Beach to convey to the County without consideration Lots 1 to 7, inclusive,
<br />Block 6, Original Town, according to recorded plat thereof. The County having determined that
<br />it will now construct a County building for the purpose of providing facilities for the housing
<br />of the aged and infirm and those requiring the public welfare and assistance of Indian River
<br />County, as well as a house of detention wherein all the delinquent children of the County will
<br />be housed and detained.

<br />for a period of one year next preceeding the first publication of the attached copy of advertisement;
<br />and affiant further says that he has neither paid nor promised any person, firm or corporation
<br />any discount, rebate, commission or refund for the purpose of securing this advertisement for
<br />publication in the said newspaper.

<br />NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN
<br />that the Board of County Com-
<br />missioners of Indian River County,
<br />Florida, has deemed it necessary
<br />to erect a County building for the'
<br />purpose of providing facilities for
<br />the housing of the aged, infirm and
<br />those requiring public welfare and
<br />assistance of said County as well
<br />as a house of detention wherein all
<br />the delinquent children of said
<br />County may be housed and de-
<br />tained and that at the next regu-
<br />lar meeting of said Board such
<br />question or questions shall be acted
<br />upon by said Board and that if at'.
<br />said meeting a majority of this
<br />Board shall determine that it is
<br />necessary to erect said building
<br />then this Board may lawfully
<br />levy a building tax not ex-
<br />ceeding five ( 5 ) mills per
<br />annum for not more than thirty
<br />(30) consecutive years in lieu of
<br />all other County buildirlg tax. All
<br />persons wishing to be heard, wiil
<br />be heard, at the regular meet-
<br />ing of-. said Board to be held on
<br />September 2, 1958 at 9 o'clock A. M.
<br />in the offices of said Board in the
<br />Indian River County Courthouse,
<br />Vero Beach, Florida.
