<br />WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1958
<br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, met at the Courthouse,
<br />Vero Beach, Florida in a special called meeting held at 9:00 o'clock A.M., Wednesday, Septem
<br />24, 1958. Present were Robert Graves, Vice Chairman, Commissioners D. B. McCullers, Jr.,
<br />and J. J. P. Hamilton. Also present were Sherman N. Smith, Jr., Attorney, Rosemary Richey,
<br />Supervisor of Registration and Katherine Morrison, Secretary.
<br />Robert Graves, Vice Chairman stated this special meeting was called for the purpose
<br />of canvasing the votes of the special election ordered by the Board of County Commissioners.
<br />Whereupon the Commissioners proceeded to --and did canvass the results.of said special election.
<br />Upon Motion made by Commissioner Hamilton, seconded by Commissioner McCullers and carried,
<br />the following Resolution was adopted:
<br />R E S O L U T I O N - Race Track Election
<br />WHEREAS, the State Racing Commission of Florida did issue its permit on the 11th day
<br />of August 1958 to the East Coast Kennel Club, Inc., to conduct greyhound racing an Indian Ri
<br />County, Florida on premises described in said permit located in said County, and,
<br />WHEREAS, this Board did at its regular meeting, September 2nd, 1958, order that a
<br />special election be held in this County on the 23rd day of September 1958 for the particular
<br />purpose of deciding whether the said permit so issued shall be approved and license issued,
<br />and racing meetings permitted in this County, and,
<br />WHEREAS, notice of said special election was published and said special election
<br />held in the manner provided by law and the Inspectors of elections having counted the votes
<br />cast and having made due returns of the same to the County Commissioners and the County Comm-
<br />issioners have this day canvassed the returns;
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River
<br />County, Florida, that this Board does herewith declare the results ,of said special election
<br />and do herewith cause the same to be recorded as provided by law and that the results of said
<br />election were:

<br />The total votes for approval thereof was 2,322 ,
<br />The total votes for rejection thereof was 2,850 ,
<br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT this Board does herewith declare and determine that the
<br />majority of the electors voting on the question of ratification or rejection of said permit
<br />did vote against such ratification, and that said permit shall be void, and,
<br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of this Board shall forward forwith a certifiec
<br />copy of this resolution to the Secretary of the State Racing Commission of Florida.
