Ben Brown of Gifford appeared before the Board representing the <br />Deacons Union of Gifford, Florida, stating they would like to have an Old <br />Folks Home for the Colored -in Gifford. He stated there was a couple in <br />Gifford who would give their home to Mrs. Christensen for use as an Old.. <br />Folk's Home but would not give the property to the. County,,? The County re- <br />quested the County Attorney to work out an agreement with the owners and Mrs. <br />Christensen so that an Old Folk's Home could be established in Gifford. <br />Ben Brown also stated they needed help to provide around 18 children <br />attending the Gifford School with lunches. The Board stated they had nothing <br />in the Budget to provide lunches for school children but requested Mrs. <br />Christensen to contact some of the organizations and clubs in Gifford and <br />she what they would do to help. <br />The County Attorney stated the Condemnation Proceedings on 16th <br />Street and Glendale would soon be tried in Court and asked the Board their <br />wishes in the matter. Upon Motion made by Commissioner Hamilton, seconded <br />by Commissioner Macdonald and carried, the Board refused the offers made by <br />the property owners, who are in condemnation on 16th Street, but agreed to <br />settle as previously authorized. In the Glendale Condemnation proceedings <br />there is only one property owner in condemnation and upon Motion made by <br />Commissioner Macdonald, seconded by Commissioner Waddell and carried the Board <br />agreed to settle out of court with Mr. Mead. Mr. Mead was asking for $1250.00 <br />plus5100.00 attorney fees. <br />The County Attorney stated that a representative from the Florida <br />Inland Navigation District will be in Vero Beach on Monday, November 9th to <br />meet with members from the Board to look over that part of Mango Island at <br />Wabasso which the Board would like to obtain for a County Park. <br />Commissioner Hamilton asked if the State Road Department on their <br />plans for U. S. #1 from Wabasso to Vero Beach had shown curb, gutter and side- <br />walks for Wabasso, Winter Beach and Gifford areas. The County Engineer stated <br />that Wabasso is the only one getting curb, gutter and sidewalks. Upon Motion <br />made by Commissioner Macdonald, seconded by Commissioner Waddell and unanimously <br />carried, the Board requested the County Engineer contact the State Road Dept. <br />to see if curb, gutter and sidewalks could be obtained for Winter Beach and <br />
