.r <br /> E . Earthwork and Backfill <br /> Compaction - All fill must be compacted by hand tamping from under the <br /> pipe up to the center-line . Backfill shall be compacted in 6" lifts up to the <br /> surface to achieve a minimum compaction of 98 percent of maximum <br /> density in roadways and shoulders and 95 percent in easements , in <br /> accordance with AASATO T- 180 and D-2167 . <br /> F . Ductile Iron Pipe and Fittings <br /> 1 . General ., <br /> All buried ductile iron pipe shall be manufactured in accordance <br /> with AWWA Specification C- 151 and shall be Class 52 minimum . �. <br /> All exposed ductile iron pipe shall be Class 53 minimum . <br /> 2 . Fittings • <br /> All underground fittings shall be either bell and spigot , or <br /> mechanical joint . Mechanical joints shall conform to AWWA •• <br /> specification C110 (ANSI 21 . 10-87 ) , or latest revision . All exposed <br /> aboveground fittings shall be flanged joint . <br /> 3 . Bell and Spigot Connections <br /> Joints in bell and spigot pipe shall be push -on , mechanical , or <br /> restrained joints in accordance with AWWA Standard C- 111 (ANSI <br /> 21 . 11 -85 ) , or latest revision . Mechanical joint pipe set-screw type <br /> retainer glands will not be permitted . <br /> 4 . Flanged Connections <br /> .. <br /> Flanged pipe with screwed -on flanges shall be furnished with long <br /> hubs , and the flanges shall be screwed on the threaded end of the <br /> pipe in the shop , and the face of the flange and end of pipe refaced <br /> together. There shall be no leakage through the pipe threads and <br /> the flanges shall be designed to prevent corrosion of the threads <br /> from outside . The back of the hub shall be caulked where the hub <br /> threads joint with the pipe . <br /> G . Disinfecting Potable Water Pipelines <br /> Before being placed in service , all potable water pipelines shall be , <br /> chlorinated in accordance with the latest edition of AWWA C-651 , <br /> " Standard Procedure for Disinfecting Water Mains" , except that the use of <br /> tablets is strictly prohibited . The procedure shall be approved by the <br /> Engineer. The location of the chlorination and sampling points will be as • <br /> specified by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection , Water <br /> Distribution System Permit . Taps for chlorination and sampling shall be <br /> uncovered and backfilled by the Contractor, as required . . <br /> TECHNICIAL PROVISIONS <br />
