The matter of the fire departments using fire hydrants of the several <br />franchise holders was brought before the Board and after some discussion <br />in the matter the County Attorney was requested to write the holders of water <br />and sewer franchises with regard to the fire departments being able to use <br />their fire hydrants. <br />General Development Utilities, Inc. filed a petition for a franchinse <br />.for water and sewer and notice of public hearing was ordered published upon <br />Motion made by Commissioner McCullers, seconded by Commissioner Macdonald <br />and carried. <br />A letter from Harold A. Scott of Reynolds, Smith and Hills was read <br />in which he enclosed a copy of a letter from the Central and Southe m Florida <br />Flood Control District indicating that the District is carrying forward the <br />idea which were expressed at the meeting held in Melbourne on February 5th. <br />A letter was read from Eugene Lyon, City Manager of Vero Beach re- <br />questing a meeting with the Board of County Commissioners and the County <br />Attorney to discuss providing fire service in unincorporated areas in the <br />County. The Deputy Clerk was requested to get in touch with Mr. Lyons and <br />see if a meeting could be arranged between all interested parties for March <br />10th at 8:oo o'clock P. M. in the City Council Meeting Room. <br />Red Blanton appeared before the Board regarding the right of way re- <br />quired by the State from the Primitive Baptist Church in Winter Beach and. <br />stated that the Board members of the Church stated they would take the <br />appraised value of the overall property ,which is $5685.00. Commissioner <br />Macdonald stated he felt the County should not become involved in real- <br />estate transactions and also he did not feel he would be fair to the rest <br />of ttre Taxpayers of the County if we bought their property. After some <br />further discussion in the matter, the Board made a firm offer of $1,000.00 <br />for the right of way needed by the State. <br />
