WHEN IS LAND CLEARING AND/OR TREE REMOVAL PERMIT REQUIRED <br /> ' FOR SINGLE-FAMILY LOT DEVELOPMENT IN THE COUNTY? <br /> A LAND CLEARING PERMIT IS REQUIRED IF : <br /> - the lot is greater that 1 acre (43 ,560 sq . ft.) in size; and <br /> - development of the lot requires the removal of any living rooted vegetation <br /> (i . e. -trees, shrubs , grass or brush) . <br /> A LAND CLEARING PERMIT IS NOT REQUIRED IF : <br /> - the lot is less than or equal to 1 acre (43,560 sq. ft.) in size; or <br /> - if no living root vegetation (i. e. -trees, shrubs, grass or brush) is disturbed. <br /> ' A TREE REMOVAL PERMIT IS REQUIRED IF; <br /> - the lot is greater than 1 acre in size; and <br /> - if a protected tree* is to be damaged or removed. <br /> A TREE REMOVAL PERMIT ISNOT REQUIRED IF : <br /> ' - the lot is less than orequal to 1 acre in size; or <br /> - if the trees to be removed are not protected trees as defined by County Ordinance. <br /> ' *PROTECTED TREE : Any tree having a Adiameter at breast height- (DBI) of four (4") inches or more, <br /> and all mangroves regardless of size . Protected trees do not include : Australian pine Casuarina sp .), Brazilian <br /> pepper (Schinus terebinthifolius), or Melaleuca elaleuca quinquenervial . <br /> ' Cabbagepalms (Sabel palmetto) and citrus trees are notprotected trees, although the County encourages <br /> their preservation for landscaping.
