Sod <br /> shall be brought in a neat , clean manner to the edge of all roads , bike path , <br /> sidewalk , shrub beds , etc . as indicated . <br /> ' 4 . Do not lay sod when weather and soil conditions are unsuitable for proper <br /> results . <br /> 5 . Place the sod on the prepared surface , with edges in close contact , and <br /> ' firmly and smoothly embed it by light tamping with appropriate tools . Where <br /> in the opinion of the ENGINEER , the sod has not been placed properly , roll <br /> the sodded area with a steel wheel roller weighing between 25 and 100 <br /> ' pounds per lineal foot . No power rolling will be permitted within 8 feet of any <br /> wall or structure . <br /> 6 . The sodded surface shall be smooth and free of gaps , holes , and uneven <br /> areas , etc . or it will not be accepted . If the OWNER or the ENGINEER <br /> determines that the sodded area is unacceptable , fill all gaps , holes , etc , with <br /> topsoil , re- roll , or relay the sod as applicable . No additional payment will be <br /> ' made for such work . <br /> 7 . Where new sod is laid adjacent to existing sod , the existing sod shall be <br /> trimmed on an even , straight line , and adjacent grading shall be such that <br /> finish grade of the new sod matches the existing grade of the existing sod . <br /> An uneven irregular finish at the interface of the new and existing sod will not <br /> be permitted . If the OWNER or ENGINEER find the interface work between <br /> the new and existing sod unacceptable , remove the new sod , re-trim the <br /> existing sod , regrade the area , and replace the new sod . No additional <br /> payment will be made for such work. <br /> 8 . Where sodding is used in drainage ditches , stagger the setting of the pieces <br /> to avoid a continuous seam along the line of flow. Along the edges of such <br /> staggered areas , the offsets of individual strips shall not exceed six inches . <br /> To prevent erosion caused by vertical edges at the outer limits , tamp the <br /> outer pieces of sod to produce a featheredge effect . <br /> 9 . On areas where the sod may slide due to height and slope , peg the sod with <br /> pegs driven through the sod blocks into firm earth , at suitable intervals . No <br /> additional payment will be made for sod that is placed on sloped surfaces , <br /> ' regardless of the degree of slope . <br /> 10 . Remove from the work , any pieces of sod that after placing , show an <br /> appearance of extreme dryness . <br /> ' 11 . Where existing sod is to be removed , maintained and re- installed , remove <br /> the existing sod with an appropriate sod cutter. Re- installation of the existing <br /> sod shall be as specified herein . <br /> ' 12 .
