A . If required , a tack coat shall be applied per Section 02518 of these Specifications , <br /> " Prime and Tack Coats for Base Courses" . <br /> ' 3 . 3 PLACEMENT OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE <br /> A . In addition to these Specifications , place the asphaltic concrete in accordance with <br /> Sections 330-3 through 330 - 14 inclusive , of the D . O . T . Specifications , with the <br /> following exceptions : <br /> 1 . Substitute " Resident Project Representative " for Engineer. <br /> 2 . Delete all phrases such as "when directed by the Engineer" that <br /> implicitly or explicitly indicate that the Engineer or Resident Project <br /> ' Representative shall have authority to supervise or direct performance <br /> of the work or authority to undertake responsibility contrary to the <br /> provisions of paragraph 9 . 13 or 9 . 14 of the "Standard General <br /> ' Conditions of the Construction Contract" . <br /> Be Uniformly lay the asphaltic concrete such that it will result in the compacted <br /> thickness shown on the Drawings . The temperature of the asphaltic concrete as it <br /> is being laid must be between 230 and 310 degrees Fahrenheit . The temperature <br /> of the material delivered to the job site shall be constant . No wide fluctuations of <br /> ' temperature of delivered material will be allowed . All asphaltic concrete which has a <br /> temperature less than 230 degrees Fahrenheit when delivered to the job site shall <br /> be rejected . Replace all rejected material with material meeting these <br /> Specifications , at no additional cost to the OWNER . <br /> C . Use self- propelled pavers , such as a Barber Green , that are capable of making a <br /> ' continuous 11 foot wide pull to apply the asphaltic concrete . The paver must have a <br /> disbursing hopper, a compacting device , and a heated screed which can be <br /> adjusted to produce the required pavement cross section . <br /> D . Immediately after spreading the asphaltic concrete , correct all deviations from the <br /> required cross section by placing additional material or by removing surplus <br /> material . Do this work while the mixture is still hot . <br /> 1 E . Begin rolling operations as soon as it is possible to roll the spread material without <br /> cracking the mat or having the mix adhere to the roller wheels . To prevent the mix <br /> from adhering to the roller, the wheels should be kept moist with only enough water <br /> I to avoid picking up the material . The longitudinal joint should be rolled immediately <br /> after the spreading operations . <br /> ' F .
