TUESDAY, MARCH 21, 1961 <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, met at <br />the Courthouse, Vero Beach, Florida in a regular meeting held at 9:00 <br />o'clock A.M., Tuesday, March 21, 1961. All members were present. Also <br />present were Sherman N. Smith, Jr., Attorney for the Board, Ed Schmucker, <br />County Engineer and Katherine Morrison, Deputy Clerk. <br />Homer Fletcher, Tax Assessor, appeared before the Board and requested <br />permission to close his office during the afternoons'until he has completed <br />the 1961 tax.roll. Upon Motion made by Commissioner McCullers, seconded <br />by Conunissioner Hamilton and carried, said request was granted. <br />Rosemary Richey, Superviso r of Registration appeared before the <br />Board and introduced Mr. Randolph Shoup of the Shoup Voting Machine Co. <br />who stated that their company had invented an accessory for the Voting <br />Machines which would allow vertical voting. He stated that each of these <br />vertical interlocking devices cost $49.50 each and that we would need <br />three for each machine or a total of $166.50 per machine. Motion was <br />made by Commissioner Macdonald, seconded by Commissioner Waddell and <br />carried, to advertise for bids for enough supplemental accessory inter- <br />locks to supply our 20 voting machines for vertical voting in three <br />columns, and that these accessory interlocks to be installed by <br />December 31, 1961. <br />The County Attorney stated he had set up a meeting with the Turnpike <br />Authorities to try to get them to make a traffic and engineering survey <br />routing by Melbourne. <br />Sherman N. Smith, Jr. stated that the State Road Department noted <br />that we had not included Indian River Boulevard in our Secondary Road <br />Resolution. Upon Motion made by Commissioner Waddell, seconded by <br />Commissioner Macdonald and carried the following Resolution was adopted: <br />
