4 <br /> STEPS FOR GRIEVANCE PROCESSING <br /> If a grievance arises, the grievant must meet with and discuss the grievance with the Battalion Chief in <br /> charge of the shift within ten working days of the event giving rise to the grievance . In the event the <br /> issue in dispute cannot be resolved between the supervisor and the grievant, the grievance shall be <br /> presented in writing by the grievant at Step 1 of the grievance procedure within five working days <br /> from the date of the supervisory meeting. Such written grievance must indicate that the matter had <br /> been reviewed with the immediate supervisor. <br /> Step 1 : The grievant shall present the written grievance to the Fire Chief. The Fire Chief shall meet <br /> with the grievant, which a union steward or a union representative may accompany if the <br /> union is not the grievant. The Fire Chief shall reach a decision and communicate it in <br /> writing to the grievant with a copy to the union if it is not the grievant within ten working <br /> days from the date the grievance was presented to him. If the grievance is not satisfactorily <br /> resolved, the grievant may forward the grievance to Step 2. <br /> Step 2 : The grievant shall present the written grievance within five working days from the date of <br /> the decision at Step 1 to the Emergency Services Director. The Emergency Services <br /> Director shall meet with the grievant, which a union steward or a union representative may <br /> accompany if the union is not the grievant. The Emergency Services Director shall reach a <br /> decision and communicate it in writing to the grievant with a copy to the union if it is not <br /> the grievant within ten working days from the date the grievance was presented to him. If <br /> the grievance is not satisfactorily resolved, the grievant may forward the grievance to Step <br /> 3 . <br /> Step 3 : The grievant shall present the written grievance within five working days from the date of <br /> the decision at Step 2 to the County Administrator or his designee . The County <br /> Administrator (or his designee who is authorized to resolve the issue) shall meet with the <br /> grievant, which a union steward or a union representative may accompany ifthe union is not <br /> the grievant.
