Progress Toward Year Two Goals
In year two, Indian River County ' s GIS implementation will focus on the expansion of GIS
applications, data and business processes into the enterprise . The GIS software industry is
migrating toward enterprise-wide solutions with client/server approach , Modernization of
software within the County to this end will provide GIS capabilities throughout all
departments and divisions . Upon completion of year two of Indian River County ' s GIS
implementation , the County will have a true enterprise GIS. The County ' s purchase of
ArcSDE and a geodatabase server have met two of the goals set for year two of Indian River
County ' s GIS implementation plan and have set a pathway toward achieving this objective .
Updated Recommendations for Year Two
Indian River County should transition to an enterprise-wide GIS and modernize its hardware
and software . The transition to the enterprise has an affect on software procurement .
Coupled with the procurement activities done in year one , software purchases will be
reduced from the original plan .
