Plants that have been rejected by the <br /> COUNTY shall be removed from the site by the CONTRACTOR at no cost to the <br /> COUNTY . <br /> 43 .4 Plants. For the purposes of this bid, the term "plant" refers to a hole into which at least 2 <br /> stems of an individual, viable, nursery grown plant of sea oats ( Uniola paniculata), dune <br /> panic grass (Panicum amarum), railroad vine (Ipomoea pes-caprae), and dune sunflower <br /> (Helianthus debilis) are installed. No other plant species will be accepted as substitutes <br /> under this bid. <br /> 43 . 5 Number of Seeds per Liner. The number of seeds placed in each liner will be determined <br /> through germination experiments by the CONTRACTOR such that deliverable, viable <br /> planting units with at least 2 emergent stems per liner are produced. Planting units with <br /> fewer than 2 viable stems will be rejected. <br /> 43 .6 Plant Size. Planting units shall be no less than 8 " , and no more than 16", in height, as <br /> measured from the top of the root ball to the apical meristem. Plants not meeting these size <br /> constraints will be rejected by the COUNTY. <br /> 43 . 7 Plant Age. Deliverable planting units shall be 90 days to 120 days old, as measured from <br /> the approximate time of germination. Planting units younger or older than this specification <br /> will be rejected by the COUNTY. <br /> 43 . 8 Planting Unit Depth. All planting units shall be installed at a minimum depth of 6", as <br /> measured from the top of the root ball to the sand surface. Plants not installed at or below <br /> this depth will be rejected by the COUNTY. <br /> 43 .9 Supervision of Planting. The CONTRACTOR shall provide at least one person who shall <br /> be present at all times during the installation of the dune vegetation, who shall be <br /> thoroughly familiar with the species being installed and the best methods for their <br /> installation, and who shall direct all work performed under this section. <br /> 43 . 10 Planting Methodology. The CONTRACTOR shall layout the work in 60-foot sections to <br /> ensure that the proper number of plants are planted in each section. The CONTRACTOR <br /> may attempt to achieve a natural look by not planting in straight rows and by modifying the <br /> spacing requirements t6" for up to 20% of the plants in each zone. <br /> 43 . 11 Fertilization. Each plant used in the restoration project shall be fertilized at the time of <br /> planting with a controlled slow release granular type fertilizer such as Osmocote 14- 14- 14 <br /> or an equivalent approved by the COUNTY. Application of the fertilizer shall be in <br /> accordance with the manufacturer's specifications. The fertilizer shall be incorporated and <br /> secured in the planting hole. <br /> 43 . 12 Irrigation. The CONTRACTOR shall supply adequate water for the establishment of all <br /> plantings. This establishment period shall commence at the initial planting/relocation of the <br /> vegetation and shall end 90 calendar days after acceptance of the vegetation work by the <br /> TECHNICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIFICATIONS TS-46 <br />
