• 'WHEREAS, ever since the construction 'of Florida State <br />Road 60 many years ago and especially during the past ten years,, <br />many people have lost.their lives or suffered serious injuries <br />as a result of being involved in collisions between automobiles , <br />and the wooden bridges along said Florida State Road 60 in Indian <br />River County, Florida; and, <br />WHEREAS, many of such lives would not have been lost and <br />many of such injuries would not have been suffered if_, instead <br />of there being wooden bridges, there had been adequate concrete • <br />• bridges equipped with steel or concrete railings and guards;•and+ <br />WHEREAS, the traffic along said Florida State Road 60 is <br />constantly increasing so that further fatal and otherwise serious <br />accidents will occur unless the condition mentioned above is cor- <br />rected; and, <br />WHEREAS, Vero Beach -Indian River County Automobile Dealers <br />Association and other professional civic and business organizations <br />have brought this condition to the attention of this Board, now, <br />therefore: <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of <br />Indian River County, Florida, that this Board does request the <br />State Road Department of the State of Florida to make its own in- <br />vestigation of the facts stated above and at the earliest possible <br />time to undertake a program of replacing the existing wooden bridges <br />along said Florida State Road 60 in Indian River County, Florida, <br />with modern concrete bridges equipped with steel or concrete rail- <br />ings and guards. <br />Commissioner Waddell stated that he had just returned from a Director's <br />Meeting of the State Association of County Commissioners in Jacksonville <br />and stated that the Florida East Coast Railway Company is entering suit <br />
