Project Engineer will then submit to the FDEP a written report detailing the condition and <br /> the <br /> implemented remedial actions within seven (7) days of the confirmation of the critical condition . The <br /> following items shall be considered as indicating a critical condition : <br /> 1 ) Seepage with boils, sand cones, or deltas on outer face of the dike or downstream from <br /> the dike ' s outer toe; <br /> 2) Silt accumulations, boils, deltas, or cones in the drainage ditches at the dike ' s base; <br /> 3) Cracking of soil surface on the dike ' s crest or on either face of the dike; <br /> 4) Bulging of the downstream face of the dike; <br /> 5) Seepage, damp area , or boils in vicinity of or erosion around a conduit through the <br /> dike; and <br /> 6) Any subsidence of the crest or faces . <br /> 4 . 2 Supplemental Inspections <br /> During the critical inspections described above, the items listed below shall be considered <br /> indicators of potential areas of concern that the contractor must then continue to monitor closely during <br /> subsequent inspections and to perform repairs as necessary. Within 24 hours of confirming the presence <br /> of an indicator of a potential area of concern, the contractor must also inform the Project Engineer of the <br /> item and any required repairs undertaken. Indicators of potential areas of concern include the following: <br /> 1 ) Overgrowth patches of vegetation on the downstream face or close area downstream <br /> from the toe; <br /> 2) Surface erosion, gullying, or wave erosion of the upstream face of the dike; <br /> 3 ) Surface erosion, gullying, or damp areas on the downstream face of the dike, including <br /> the berm and the area downstream from the outside toe; <br /> 4) Erosion below any conduit exiting the dike; and <br /> 5) Wet areas or soggy soil in the downstream face of the dike or in the natural soil below <br /> dike. <br /> - 20 - <br />
