Mr. Terry Southard
16 December 2008
Page 3
Task 2 — Site Assessment Field Drilling/Sampling Activities
1st Mobilization
• Mobilize to the site and provide oversight of the installation up to five , '/4- inch temporary
monitoring wells to a depth of 8 to 10 ft below land surface (BLS - depth to groundwater
estimated at approximately 5 ft BLS) north , south, and/or west of the area with pH and
sodium impacted groundwater using hand auger equipment to supplement the previously
installed wells in an effort to provide lateral delineation of the previously identified area
of sodium impacted groundwater . Note : For clarification the goal of the proposed field
activities is for the delineation of sodium impacted groundwater and not for the
delineation of pH impacts .
• Provide oversight of the installation of the FDEP-approved background monitoring well
(as proposed in Geosyntec ' s in 7 August 2008 letter report) by a licensed water well
subcontractor . The monitoring well will have a '/4 - or 1 - inch diameter PVC casing and
pre-packed screen and will be finished within a protective flush-mounted manhole cover .
Note that macro-core soil sampling will be conducted prior to installation of the well and
soil samples will be visually characterized by the Geosyntec field representative
(enabling the preparation of a lithologic cross section , which is a Chapter 62 -780 , FAC ,
SAR requirement) .
• Collect a complete set of groundwater level measurements and collect groundwater
samples from existing monitoring wells MWO1 and MW02 , the five proposed temporary
monitoring wells, and up to 11 existing piezometers for the FDEP-required analytical
suite (dissolved solids , chloride, sodium and sulfate) . As required by the FDEP, all
groundwater samples proposed herein will be laboratory analyzed for dissolved solids by
EPA Method 160 . 3 , chloride and sulfate by EPA Method 300, sodium by EPA Method
6010 , sulfate, and field screened for pH, temperature, specific conductance, turbidity and
dissolved oxygen .
2 "d Mobilization
After reviewing the information obtained from the I " mobilization described above , Geosyntec
will conduct the following on -site activities during a 2nd mobilization to the site .
• Provide oversight of the installation of three permanent shallow- screened monitoring
wells (approximate depth of 13 -ft BLS) , in an effort to provide horizontal delineation of
sodium (and dissolved solids, chloride, and/or sulfate , if detected) impacted groundwater
to the north , south, and west of the sodium- impacted area currently identified above the
associated screening limit . Macro-core soil sampling will be conducted prior to
installation of the wells and soil samples will be visually characterized by the Geosyntec
field representative . Note that well installation(s) may be located within approximately
FR 1329/XR08264 .DOC
