The MPO is a countywide agency that is responsible for transportation planning , <br /> programming , and financing for the five municipalities and unincorporated areas of Indian <br /> River County. Specifically, the MPO is responsible for preparing short and long range <br /> transportation plans which identify the need , timing , and phasing of future transportation <br /> improvements . The MPO is also responsible for planning and programming federal and state <br /> transportation funds to construct, enhance , and maintain major roadways , bridges , transit, <br /> and bicycle/pedestrian facilities . <br /> The MPO is collocated with the Indian River County administrative offices , and it serves as a <br /> facilitator between the County and the various local governments that are members of the <br /> _. MPO . The MPO has utilized GIS in support of transportation planning , and it has developed <br /> a GIS-based software application that uses the County Property Appraiser's GIS and attribute <br /> data to determine vacant acreage on both a Countywide and sub-area basis . The vacant <br /> land analysis application allows the MPO to develop more accurate socio-economic and <br /> land use data for input into its travel demand forecasting models . The County and the MPO <br /> have an established , mutually- beneficial relationship, and both organizations have a history <br /> of collaboration on GIS initiatives—it is expected that the MPO will continue to have an <br /> active role in the County ' s GIS implementation . <br /> GL3 ' <br /> GOV.
