A � fy <br /> Department of General Services <br /> Departmental Structure and Functions <br /> The Department of General Services is comprised of eight diverse divisions . The Department <br /> includes the following divisions : 1 ) Cooperative Extension Agent; 2) Buildings and Grounds ; 3) <br /> Housing Authority ; 4) Library Services ; 4 ) Purchasing ; 5) Soil and Water Conservation District : 6 ) <br /> Shooting Range : 7) Telecommunications; and 8) Veterans Service Office . Overall , the <br /> Department employs approximately 120 staff members . <br /> In the context of the County ' s GIS , this needs assessment will focus on a subset of the <br /> aforementioned divisions , given that GIS primarily will be utilized in the following divisions : <br /> • Buildings and Grounds <br /> • Cooperative Extension Agent <br /> • Library Services <br /> • Soil and Water Conservation District <br /> • Telecommunications <br /> Veterans Service Office <br /> Building and Grounds Division <br /> The Building and Grounds Division for Indian River County is responsible for the repairs and <br /> coordination of replacement of buildings and maintenance for the exterior/interior of <br /> County-owned properties . The Judicial Center located at 2100 16th Ave is the flagship <br /> facility . This facility is equipped with a sophisticated access control and air conditioning <br /> systems . Other facilities maintained by this division are the Libraries, Public Health Building , <br /> and County Jail . Twenty seven dedicated employees provide service to all County <br /> Departments and strive to protect the investment the taxpayers of Indian River County <br /> provided for facilities . <br /> Cooperative Extension Agent <br /> The Cooperative Extension Agent is a nationwide entity that %R �\ L. ` I \ L161 i ) O ) <br /> was established by the Smith-Lever Act of 1914. It is a <br /> partnership between state land grant universities, the United �-__ � FLORIDA <br /> States Department of Agriculture ( USDA ) and county I - - <br /> governments throughout the nation . All of these groups E X T E N S 10 N <br /> share in the planning, financing , and operation of extension lr." " " " R . ,. i <br /> programs . In Florida , the Cooperative Extension Service is administered by the University of <br /> Florida . The Cooperative Extension at Indian River County is a cross-functional division that <br /> provides assistance to County citizens in agricultural programs, water quality, pest <br /> management , and land management prior to and after natural disasters , such as <br /> hurricanes . The Cooperative Extension Agent ' s office is comprised of five staff members , <br /> including the County Extension Director, Extension Agents, and Staff Assistants . <br /> Library Services <br /> The Division of Library Services has the mission of providing diverse cultural opportunities for <br /> reading , learning and entertainment to all citizens in the community. The Division of Library <br /> Services leads the way to a universe of information with personal service and technology . <br /> The Division administers two libraries within Indian River County : the Main Library in the City of <br /> Vero Beach and a satellite library to the north in the City of Sebastian ; both libraries offer <br /> patrons a diverse set of programs and services .
