y #. <br /> Emergency Services <br /> e [ ¢ Departmental Structure and Functions <br /> The Emergency Services Department works in close cooperation with town and city <br /> governments in Indian River County to address the County ' s emergency services operations . <br /> Emergency Services operates as an entity within the Board of County Commissioner ' s and <br /> the County Administrator. <br /> Personnel in the Department include : <br /> • Emergency Services Director <br /> • E-91 1 Database Manager <br /> • Medical Director <br /> • Fire Chief <br /> • Fire Volunteers <br /> + 0 Emergency Management Planner and Assistant <br /> • Emergency Volunteers <br /> • Radiological Preparedness/ Radio Systems Manager <br /> • EMS Manager and Volunteers <br /> • Animal Control Director <br /> To accomplish its mission and purpose, Emergency Services is divided into the following <br /> divisions , each with a distinct function : <br /> E-911 Database <br /> At present , one person is employed in this division , although an additional position is being <br /> considered . This Division ' s main responsibility is to ensure an accurate 911 database for <br /> addressing , emergency routing , and notification purposes . This Division currently plays a key <br /> role in the County ' s GIS , as the E-91 1 Database Manager manages several data sets that are <br /> critical for both emergency services response and planning ) and the County as a whole : <br /> the Database Manager currently manages and maintains the County ' s street centerline <br /> layer. <br /> Animal Control <br /> The Animal Control Division is responsible for control of domestic animals . Approximately one <br /> dog bite per day was recorded in the last year . Animal Control works in coordination with <br /> the Code Enforcement, Sheriff , and Health Departments and responds to 30 or 40 calls per <br /> day relating to sick dogs , dog bites, and drug busts with animals involved . <br /> Emergency Management <br /> A main objective of the Emergency Management Division is to ensure that prompt and <br /> proper public notification takes place when an emergency situation or potential threat is at <br /> hand . Currently, this notification occurs through television , media , radio , print media , and <br /> telephone . Other disasters besides hurricanes can threaten County residents and the Division <br /> ensures citizens are well prepared to escape these natural disasters . <br /> Emergency Medical Services <br />® The Emergency Medical Services Division strives to reach its goals of maintaining high quality <br /> cutting edge emergency medicine through continuous public interaction .
