ORGANIZATION CAPABILITY (Entire Section A not to exceed one page <br /> 1 . Provide the mission statement and vision of your organization. <br /> GYAC Mission Statement is : <br /> With God' s guidance our vision is to establish a partnership among youth, adults and the <br /> Gifford-Indian River County area that develops self-esteem, teaches character and encourages <br /> each individual to his/her ultimate potential. <br /> GYAC Vision is : <br /> To provide supplemental educational and character enhancing visual and dramatic arts <br /> opportunities to children and families in the Gifford-Indian River Community to enhance their <br /> educational and personal growth and development. In doing so, it is the GYAC ' s charge to <br /> enhance our children and families' educational and professional success. Skills learned in these <br /> programs and directly transferable to success in education include responsibility, discipline, <br /> respect, teamwork, caring and sharing. <br /> 2. Provide a brief summary of your organization including areas of expertise, <br /> accomplishments, and population served. <br /> The Gifford Youth Activity Center (GAYC) was established in 1998 to meet the educational and <br /> personal development needs of the Gifford-Indian River Community through supplemental <br /> children' s education and family development opportunities . The GYAC has also established a <br /> network of programs to enhance behavioral outcomes of these children. The GYAC employs <br /> educational experts and partners with many organizations to provide these services. The GYAC <br /> has utilized the expertise of partners including: the Indian River County (IRC) School District, <br /> the Indian River Community College, Project Hope, Indian River Library System, the Cultural <br /> Counsel, the Vero Beach Museum of Art, the Riverside Children' s Theater and many more. <br /> Successful programs include: Upward Bound, the Cultural Camp, the After School Program, the <br /> Preschool Early Literacy Program and much more . <br /> The GYAC received the 2005 Outstanding Florida Minority Education Community Organization <br /> Award. This award was presented by Governor Jeb Bush and Education Commissioner, John <br /> Winn on behalf of the Florida African-American Education Alliance. The GYAC has very <br /> talented and dedicated staff and utilizes the expertise of its many partner organizations to offer <br /> quality programs . <br /> The number of children served daily in 2006/2007 is 250. <br /> 3 <br />
